Job Opportunity: Food Garden Service Workers (x105 Posts) – Multiple Agricultural Sites in Mpumalanga

Overview:
The Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs (DARDLEA) invites applications for 105 Food Garden Service positions under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). These posts are designed to promote community-based food production, address food insecurity, and empower local residents, especially youth, women, and persons with disabilities.
Successful candidates will assist in the maintenance and expansion of community and institutional food gardens, contributing directly to sustainable livelihoods and nutritional improvement in rural and semi-urban communities.
Workstation Locations Include:
- Bohlabela District: Makhubidung, Ludlow, Cottondale, Dumphries, Lilydale, Bushbuckridge
- Nkangala District: Kwamhlanga FTC, Mdala
- Gert Sibande District: Dipaliseng, Ekulindeni, Amsterdam
- Ehlanzeni District: Mashishing, Graskop, Matibidi, Marapyane FTC, Boschrand Farm
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare soil and planting areas for seasonal crops.
- Plant, water, weed, and harvest vegetables, herbs, and fruits.
- Assist in composting and organic waste recycling processes.
- Maintain garden tools and equipment.
- Work with community members and schools to support food gardening education.
- Follow all safety and agricultural best practices as instructed.
Requirements and Skills:
- Minimum Qualification: Grade 10.
- Additional Requirements:
- Ability to read and write.
- 1 year of experience in gardening, horticulture, or food production (advantageous).
- Skills:
- Passion for agriculture and food production.
- Physical strength and ability to work outdoors.
- Ability to work independently and in teams.
- Commitment to community development and environmental care.
