Overview:
The Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs (DARDLEA) is inviting applications for 5 Garden Assistant positions under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). These posts aim to create short-term employment opportunities for individuals from designated groups, including youth, women, and persons with disabilities, as part of the government’s poverty alleviation strategy.
Successful candidates will assist with crop and garden maintenance at Boschrand Farm, contributing to sustainable food production and agricultural development in the Ehlanzeni District.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting crops.
- Maintain garden beds, compost areas, and pathways.
- Operate basic gardening tools and equipment safely.
- Support general cleanliness and orderliness of the garden area.
- Follow instructions from supervisors and adhere to health and safety protocols.
- Assist with irrigation setup and garden waste disposal.
Requirements and Skills:
- Minimum Qualification: Grade 10.
- Additional Requirements:
- Ability to read and write.
- Minimum of 1 year experience working with crops or in a garden environment.
- Skills:
- Basic understanding of plant care and maintenance.
- Physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in various conditions.
- Reliability, discipline, and willingness to learn.
