Overview
The General Assistant role is essential in ensuring excellent customer service, maintaining store standards, and supporting smooth daily operations. This position requires reliability, willingness to work shifts, and the ability to thrive in a busy retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Customer Service
-Assist customers by providing product information and resolving queries.
-Help customers locate items and ensure a positive shopping experience.
-Manage and resolve customer complaints professionally.
2. Merchandising
-Merchandise bulk stock and ensure correct display according to store layout plans.
-Maintain fully merchandised aisles aligned with planograms.
-Ensure accurate and visible shelf price labeling.
3. Housekeeping
-Maintain a clean, obstacle-free working area.
-Ensure stock is unpacked and merchandised immediately after receiving.
-Complete housekeeping checklists, including Canteen and Toilet/Shower schedules.
4. Safety & Compliance (OHSA)
-Follow all occupational health and safety requirements.
-Use safety gear when required and ensure customer and staff safety.
-Report any stock, safety, or structural discrepancies to the Store Manager.
5. Stock Loss Control
-Identify and report damaged stock promptly.
-Maintain accurate stock-handling processes to reduce shrinkage.
Minimum Requirements
–Grade 10 / NQF 3 + 1 year retail experience, OR
–Grade 12 (No experience required)
-Ability to communicate in English and the regionโs dominant language
-Valid South African ID or Work Permit
-Able to perform basic maths accurately
-Willing to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
-Able to work under pressure
