🔧 Overview

Government Handymen provide essential maintenance and repair support within public facilities, ensuring the safety, functionality, and appearance of government buildings. These roles require hands-on technical ability, vigilance, and a proactive approach to facility upkeep.

Handymen also support key control, minor repairs, security-related inspections, and general maintenance across offices, campuses, and court buildings.

📝 Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

ABET or Grade 10
Proven ability to perform routine repairs and maintenance independently
Key control experience (issuing, tracking & safeguarding keys)
Ability to coordinate with on-site security personnel
24/7 availability for emergencies
Risk awareness and ability to identify threats or facility hazards
Familiarity with safety inspections
Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and during special events
Good verbal & written communication
Ability to troubleshoot and propose practical repair solutions
Advantageous: gardening, landscaping or cleaning experience
Must remain calm under pressure
Valid Driver’s Licence (mandatory)

🔨 Core Duties & Responsibilities

Conduct regular inspections of buildings, fencing, classrooms, workshops, doors, windows & general structures
Perform minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, mechanical or AC repairs
Open and secure buildings (labs, classrooms, offices) — including windows, heating, AC, and gates
Manage campus key safekeeping and allocation
Repair broken fixtures (windows, doors, ceilings, toilets, pipes, etc.)
Assist with cleaning and campus presentation when required
Perform gardening, sweeping, landscaping, and general upkeep
Monitor Security Occurrence Book and report risks immediately
Compile daily/weekly/monthly maintenance and safety reports
Perform additional duties assigned by management
Participate in ongoing training & attend meetings as required
