Overview:
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Social Development invites applications from qualified individuals for the position of Driver/Messenger. The successful candidate will be based in Pietermaritzburg and will provide reliable driving and delivery services as well as perform messenger duties.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
-Drive light and medium vehicles to transport passengers and deliver mail and official documents.
-Perform routine maintenance on the allocated vehicle, such as monitoring oil, water, fuel, and tire pressure.
-Report any mechanical issues and arrange for necessary services and repairs.
-Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
-Complete and submit accurate records and logbooks for vehicle movements.
-Collect and deliver mail and packages between departmental offices and external institutions.
-Assist with photocopying, document preparation, and related office duties when required.
-Handle confidential and classified information with discretion.
Requirements:
- Educational Qualification: Minimum Grade 10.
- Driving Experience: At least 7 to 12 months of experience in driving.
- Driver’s License: Valid Code 10 driver’s license.
- Skills & Knowledge:
- Knowledge of road traffic rules and driving procedures.
- Ability to conduct basic vehicle maintenance checks.
- Familiarity with routes, locations, and general map reading.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer literacy will be an added advantage.
- Time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and handle pressure.
