Overview
The Department of Health and Wellness is seeking 28 Household Aids to join the Tygerberg Hospital team. Successful candidates will assist in maintaining hospital hygiene, supporting infection prevention, and ensuring a clean, safe environment for patients and staff.
Minimum Requirements
- Basic numeracy and literacy.
- Appropriate cleaning experience in a healthcare environment.
Inherent Requirements of the Job:
- Ability to perform physical tasks (e.g., lifting heavy equipment).
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and night duty.
- Willingness to rotate between different work areas.
Competencies (Knowledge/Skills):
- Ability to plan and organise cleaning work schedules.
- Good communication skills.
- Knowledge of safety standards, infection prevention and control.
- Ability to conduct hospital hygiene audits.
- Understanding of hospital waste management, linen management, catering, and time management.
- Ability to work under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform cleaning duties in clinical and general areas, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, polishing, and toilet deep-cleaning.
- Manage waste disposal and maintain hygiene standards.
- Carry out terminal cleaning in isolated areas, ICU, and other specialised units.
- Assist supervisors with general housekeeping tasks, including equipment control, linen care, and serving meals to patients.
- Clean and store equipment after use.
- Use cleaning agents effectively and manage stock responsibly.
