Overview
Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg is seeking a professional and detail-oriented Reception Administrator to join their patient administration team. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality administrative support during patient admissions and discharges while ensuring compliance with financial and operational procedures. This role is key to delivering a seamless and professional client experience.
Key Responsibilities
-Handle patient admissions, including pre-admissions and bookings, accurately and according to established procedures.
-Identify and mitigate financial risks by adhering to internal policies, including cash handling, blacklisted patient protocols, and verifying medical aid information.
-Ensure the discharge process is completed effectively in accordance with the Patient Administration Manual.
-Maintain strict patient confidentiality at all times.
-Support emergency or major incident protocols when necessary.
-Assist in preparing bed allocations and next-day admissions.
Requirements and Skills
Education
- Essential: Grade 12 or equivalent
- Desirable: No additional formal education required
Experience
- Essential: None required
- Desirable: Reception administration experience, particularly in a private healthcare facility
Skills and Knowledge
-Strong computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office
-Familiarity with hospital switchboard systems and patient admin programs (e.g., AS400 system)
-Knowledge of admission, discharge, and bed allocation functions
-Understanding of medical aid schemes and the private healthcare environment
-Ability to interpret ICD and CPT codes
-Basic anatomy and medical terminology
-Knowledge of Workman’s Compensation Act (WCA) procedures and policies
-Awareness of emergency and major incident protocols (e.g., fire, robbery, floods)
-Ability to identify financial risks such as blacklisted patients or patient valuables
-Familiarity with the Debtpack Enquiry application and general patient administration policies
