Introduction

The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftainship, Home Affairs and Police invites applications from suitably qualified Basotho nationals to fill the position of Passport Assistant (Grade E) within the Department of Home Affairs.

This role is ideal for candidates with an administrative background who are detail-oriented and committed to public service. The successful applicant will support passport processing operations, ensuring accurate, secure, and timely handling of applications for the public.

Job Summary

The Passport Assistant is responsible for processing passport applications, including verification, biometric capture, printing, and issuance, while maintaining accurate records in line with government procedures and security standards.


Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Receive and verify passport application documents for completeness and accuracy
  • Capture biometric information in accordance with prescribed standards
  • Assist with printing, dispatching, and issuing passports
  • Maintain accurate records and registers of applications and issued documents
  • Ensure compliance with security, confidentiality, and data protection requirements
  • Provide basic guidance to applicants on passport procedures where required
  • Support the Passport Officer with administrative and operational tasks

Qualifications & Eligibility

  • Diploma in Public Administration, Business Studies, Adult Education, or a related field
    This qualification ensures the administrative competence required for government service.
  • Must be a Basotho national
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with integrity and confidentiality
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Basic computer literacy will be an added advantage
