Pick n Pay is inviting unemployed South African youth and job seekers to apply for its UIF Skills Programme at Pick n Pay Hypermarkets.
This is a six-month development programme designed to give participants practical workplace experience while developing valuable skills in retail, customer service, food preparation and store operations.
Participants will receive a R2,000 monthly stipend while completing a combination of online learning and practical in-store training.
Applicants need Grade 12, must be between 18 and 40 years old, be South African citizens and currently unemployed.
One of the attractive features of the programme is that applicants can choose from four different career streams depending on their interests: Mastercut, Freshrize, All Rounders, or Health & Beauty Heroes.

About the Pick n Pay UIF Skills Programme
The programme provides participants with structured learning and real workplace exposure at Pick n Pay Hypermarkets.
Instead of learning only through theory, participants will combine online learning with practical experience inside a retail environment.
During the six-month programme, participants can develop workplace skills, receive guidance from experienced store mentors and gain exposure that may help them when applying for future employment.
The programme offers:

- Ongoing support and development.

Minimum Requirements
To be considered for the Pick n Pay UIF Skills Programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Have Grade 12.
- Be between 18 and 40 years old.
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be currently unemployed.
- Have an interest in food, retail and customer service.
- Be willing to work retail trading hours.
- Be available to work weekends and public holidays when required.
- Have good communication skills.
- Be able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Be committed to completing the full six-month development programme.
Is Previous Experience Required?
No previous work experience is specified as a minimum requirement for this programme.
This makes the opportunity particularly relevant to unemployed applicants with Grade 12 who are looking for an opportunity to gain practical workplace exposure and develop retail skills.

1. Mastercut – Butchery

Mastercut is aimed at applicants interested in food and specialist butchery skills.
This stream may be suitable for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work and wants exposure to the retail food industry.
Participants will gain:
- Specialist butchery skills.
- Practical in-store experience.
- Industry-recognised workplace exposure.
- Exposure to the retail food industry.
2. Freshrize – Bakery
Growing the Next Generation of Bakery Talent
Freshrize is designed for applicants interested in baking and food preparation.
Participants will learn alongside experienced bakery teams in an actual retail environment.
Training includes:
- Bakery production skills.
- Food preparation experience.
- Customer service skills.
- Practical workplace exposure.
This stream may appeal to applicants interested in building practical bakery and food retail skills.
3. All Rounders – Retail Operations
Developing the Next Generation of Retail Frontline Talent
The All Rounders stream provides exposure to different areas of retail.
Instead of specialising only in butchery or bakery, participants can develop broader skills relating to frontline retail and store operations.
Participants will gain:

4. Health & Beauty Heroes
Developing the Next Generation of Health & Beauty Advisors
The Health & Beauty Heroes stream focuses on helping customers with health and beauty products while developing specialist retail knowledge.
Participants will gain:

- Sales skills.
- Customer engagement skills.
- Merchandising experience.
- Practical retail experience.
This stream may appeal to applicants with an interest in beauty, personal care, customer service and retail sales.
