Overview:
RCL Foods is recruiting a customer-focused and highly motivated Code 10 Driver Salesman to join our Baking Business Unit based in Durban. The successful candidate will be responsible for the transportation and cash-based sales of bread and confectionery products, delivering to both traders and retail outlets, and acquiring new customers as needed. This role reports directly to the Distribution Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle & Hygiene Duties:
-Maintain a clean and safe vehicle environment.
-Wear prescribed PPE at all times.
-Conduct daily pre- and post-trip vehicle checks using a company checklist.
-Report and document any faults or accidents as per company procedures.
-Adhere strictly to road safety and statutory regulations.
Stock Control & Loading:
-Verify accuracy of loaded stock against orders.
-Report discrepancies and ensure stock quality before delivery.
-Assist in loading when required and ensure secure loading practices.
-Inform customers in case of substandard stock and handle appropriately.
Van Assistant Supervision:
-Ensure van assistant’s presence, conduct, and performance meet company standards.
-Provide training, coaching, and performance feedback.
-Maintain professional working relationships.
Sales & Customer Relations:
-Build and maintain strong relationships with customers.
-Identify opportunities for increased sales and customer acquisition.
-Report service issues and potential customer losses.
-Implement promotions as required and ensure regular customer communication.
Deliveries & Logistics:
-Deliver products accurately based on customer orders.
-Monitor stock levels and arrange replenishment if necessary.
-Secure orders for next-day deliveries.
-Collect or deliver other products/materials as needed.
-Conduct crate recovery to minimize losses.
Cash & Documentation Handling:
-Safeguard all cash and company assets.
-Use the vehicle safe for all monetary transactions.
-Accurately complete transactional paperwork (e.g., invoices, delivery notes, logs).
-Ensure full accountability of all documentation and stock sold.
-Perform daily cash-ups with the supervisor.
Competitor and Market Intelligence:
- Gather and report competitor product, pricing, and customer information.
General Duties:
-Perform additional tasks as required, including duties of a van assistant or loader.
-Comply with health and safety standards under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
-Report health issues affecting driving capabilities immediately.
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Valid Code 10 Driver’s License.
- Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in FMCG driving and cash sales.
- Experience in delivering and selling goods to new and existing customers.
Skills:
- Ability to read, write, and communicate fluently in English.
- Good numeracy skills.
- Customer service orientation.
- Familiarity with FMCG distribution operations.
Other Requirements:
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and public holidays.
- Standby availability to cover absenteeism when needed.
- Medically fit to perform job duties safely.
