Overview
Redpath Mining South Africa, a leading global underground mining contractor, is seeking a highly experienced Mining Engineer / Senior Estimator to join its team in Kempton Park.
This role is suited to a technically strong professional with extensive experience in mining tender preparation, capital development, shaft sinking, contract mining, cost estimation, and project scheduling. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing competitive and compliant mining tenders while ensuring alignment with safety, technical, and commercial requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare comprehensive mining tenders including:
- Preliminary methodology
- Equipment selection
- Life cycle costing
- Labour resourcing
- Production rate calculations
- Examine blueprints and technical documentation to prepare:
- Time estimates
- Cost breakdowns
- Materials and equipment estimates
- Compile and price detailed Bill of Quantities (BOQ)
- Schedule and manage the full bidding process
- Coordinate stakeholder and subcontractor input into tender submissions
- Consult with engineers, project owners, and subcontractors on bid adjustments
- Identify and analyse commercial and operational risks
- Prepare project start-up documentation and support handover to site management
- Ensure proper administration, compliance, and storage of tender documentation
- Maintain accountability and liability for all tender submissions
Minimum Requirements
- Matric certificate or equivalent
- BSc or BTech in Mining Engineering or Quantity Surveying
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, MS Projects, Word, PowerPoint)
- Sound knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and related regulations
Experience & Technical Competencies
- 5โ10 yearsโ experience in scheduling and pricing mining tenders, including:
- Capital Development
- Shaft Sinking
- Contract Mining
- Experience with estimating software such as Hard Dollar or InEight (advantageous)
- Advanced scheduling capability (MS Projects, Primavera, or InEight Scheduler)
- Strong analytical and negotiation skills
- Ability to administer and verify tender submission documents
- Proven ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
