Overview:

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Section Commander: Language Services. The incumbent will lead the language services team by providing professional translation, editing, and language advisory services across the Directorate.

Key Responsibilities:

-Proofread, edit, and translate official documents across various languages (must be fluent in English).

-Provide language advisory and support services in compliance with legal and internal standards.

-Develop instructional materials and facilitate literacy enhancement initiatives.

-Maintain and update language databases and terminology repositories.

-Apply translation software and other linguistic tools.

-Ensure adherence to information security standards such as MISS and the Protection of Information Act.

-Manage human, financial, and physical resources in the language services unit.

Requirements and Skills:

-A Senior Certificate (Grade 12).

-A valid light motor vehicle driver’s license.

-Fluent in at least two official languages, one of which must be English.

-Must be a South African citizen with no criminal or departmental convictions.

-A three-year Diploma/Degree (NQF level 6 or higher) in Language Practice, Communication Science, or related field.

-At least four (4) years of relevant experience, with a minimum of three (3) years at a supervisory level.

-Experience in translation tools and language management is advantageous.

-Must not have visible tattoos when in uniform.

-Candidates must be willing to undergo full vetting and other assessments as required by SAPS.
