Overview:

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation is looking for an experienced and knowledgeable professional to serve as the Sub-Section Commander: Chemical Monitoring. The successful candidate will manage the monitoring and control of precursor chemicals and play a strategic role in combating drug-related crimes.

Key Responsibilities:

-Prevent, detect, and respond to the diversion of precursor chemicals through modeling, simulation, and industry collaboration.

-Provide national-level expertise on synthetic drug trends and chemical compositions.

-Conduct and manage research on chemical substances in accordance with international standards.

-Support international partnerships (e.g., INCB, SAHPRA, ITAC) and lead national awareness campaigns and training.

-Maintain national databases for import/export notifications and clandestine laboratories.

-Conduct chemical and equipment backtracking investigations.

-Ensure compliance with UN conventions on drug control.

-Manage human, physical, and financial resources in line with SAPS directives.

Requirements and Skills:

-A Senior Certificate (Grade 12).

-A valid light motor vehicle driver’s license.

-Proficient in at least two official languages, including English.

-South African citizenship with no prior criminal or departmental convictions.

-A three-year Diploma/Degree (NQF level 6 or higher) in Chemical Engineering or related field.

-Minimum of three (3) years relevant experience, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory role.

-In-depth knowledge of general chemistry and the IUPAC naming system.

-No visible tattoos when in uniform.

-Willingness to undergo SAPS vetting, screening, and assessments.
