Overview

Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality invites suitably qualified applicants to serve as Seasonal Lifeguards over the festive period. Successful candidates will help keep residents and visitors safe across the City’s beaches through proactive patrols, rescues, crowd control and first aid.

Key Responsibilities

-Patrol assigned beaches and monitor local sea and weather conditions.

-Perform water rescues and assist drowning or distressed bathers.

-Render first aid and manage injury scenes until further medical support arrives.

-Operate and care for rescue equipment, including inflatable rescue boats.

-Support crowd control and basic Peace Officer–type duties on the beachfront.

-Maintain professional conduct and public safety at all times.

Requirements & Skills

–Minimum education: Grade 10.

–Certifications: Surf Proficiency Award certificate and valid retest certificate.

–Experience: At least 1 year relevant lifesaving experience.

-Physically fit, water-confident, and able to work in varying beach conditions.

-Strong situational awareness, communication and teamwork skills.

–Age: Applicants must be 16 years or older.

Remuneration & Contract

• Salary: Task Grade 6A – R23 990.25 per month.
• Contract Period: 1 December 2025 to 31 January 2026.
