Overview

The South African Police Service (SAPS) is recruiting 49 Security Officers for the 2026 intake across multiple national centres. Successful candidates will join the Security Services Section and Supply Chain Management Division, performing vital access control, patrolling and building protection duties in accordance with the Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act (Act 53 of 1985).

The ideal candidates must demonstrate discipline, reliability, integrity, and a strong commitment to protecting SAPS premises, assets, personnel and visitors. This is an excellent opportunity for qualified security professionals seeking a stable, government-based security environment.


Key Responsibilities

โ€“ Execute access control duties at SAPS entrances and controlled areas.
โ€“ Conduct positive identification of employees, contractors and visitors.
โ€“ Register visitors, perform electronic searches and issue visitor control cards.
โ€“ Authorize and manage entry based on legislative and SAPS requirements.
โ€“ Inspect suppliers, vehicles, articles and equipment entering SAPS premises.
โ€“ Patrol buildings, fenced-off areas and parking zones.
โ€“ Safeguard SAPS assets, including vehicles, equipment and restricted spaces.
โ€“ Conduct inspections of security equipment and report faults to senior security personnel.
โ€“ Enforce security prescripts and maintain visitor and access registers.


Minimum Requirements

โ€“ South African citizenship.
โ€“ Fluent in two official languages, one must be English.
โ€“ No criminal or departmental convictions; no pending cases.
โ€“ Grade 12 / Senior Certificate OR NC(V) Level 4 (NQF Level 4).
โ€“ PSIRA Registration Grade C (minimum).
โ€“ Not declared unfit to possess a firearm; willingness to undergo firearm competency assessments.
โ€“ Successful completion of vetting, fingerprint screening and security checks.
โ€“ A driverโ€™s licence, relevant security training or a diploma in security is advantageous.
โ€“ Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays and extended hours.
