Overview:
Shelly Beach Hospital is seeking a dedicated and qualified Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant to provide pharmaceutical services to both inpatients and outpatients under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist. The successful candidate will work the afternoon to evening shift and play a key role in the hospital’s medication management process.
Key Responsibilities:
-Read and prepare prescriptions, label, and supply medications
-Provide patient education on proper medication use
-Assist with preparation and compounding of medications
-Re-package medications as per protocols
-Dispense prescriptions under supervision of a pharmacist
-Control, order, and distribute stock, including Schedule 1 to Schedule 4 medications
-Conduct stock counts, manage expiry dates, and reordering of ethical stock
-Ensure compliance with legal and operational standards
-Maintain documentation and follow hospital pharmacy procedures
Inherent Requirements:
-Relevant Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
-Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
-Current annual SAPC registration certificate
-1–2 years of experience in a hospital or clinical environment
-Proficient in MS Word and Excel (intermediate computer literacy)

- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to follow technical standards and procedures accurately
- Understanding of Pharmacy stock control systems
- Ability to work staggered hours and perform on-call duties
- Sound knowledge of pharmacy operations
- Team player with a willingness to collaborate across departments
- Previous experience in hospital or retail pharmacy is advantageous
- Ability to handle multiple responsibilities efficiently
