Overview

Golden Gate Highlands National Park invites applications for two Skilled Environmental Monitors (Technical Services) under the Expanded Public Works Programme. These roles focus on hands-on technical maintenance across park facilities, supporting safe, clean, and well-maintained environments for staff and visitors. Successful candidates must provide their own reliable transport and accommodation and may be required to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and overtime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general electrical maintenance and repairs on building equipment.
  • Replace and repair wires, switches, fixtures, motors, pumps, and boilers; assist Handyman with daily tasks.
  • Carry out semi-skilled building tasks (tiling, painting, plumbing, small carpentry) to set quality and productivity standards.
  • Execute trade-related repairs and maintenance to buildings and structures (tourist, staff, admin, and technical facilities).
  • Assist with fleet management and related administration.
  • Conduct routine maintenance across facilities, including ablutions and civil/building areas (new and existing).
  • Complete daily stock control, report anomalies, and keep accurate records.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in work areas, technical stores, and equipment.
  • Provide daily services throughout the park to ensure a clean, safe, and pleasant environment.
  • Perform other ad-hoc duties as required by Supervisor/Management.

Requirements & Skills

  • Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 (Standard 10).
  • Valid Code 10 driverโ€™s licence.
  • At least 1 year relevant experience in a technical/maintenance environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; basic administrative knowledge.
  • Safety-conscious with knowledge of safe work practices and familiarity with OHS regulations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Computer literacy is an advantage.
  • No criminal record โ€“ valid SAPS Clearance Certificate required.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and public holidays as operationally required.
  • Own reliable transport and accommodation.
  • Willingness to undergo a fitness assessment during selection.
