Overview:
Transnet Freight Rail is offering an exciting opportunity for individuals to join as Trainee Yard Officials at its Worcester operations. This training programme is designed to equip candidates with the theoretical and practical knowledge required to qualify and be certified as Yard Officials.
Purpose of the Position:
The Trainee Yard Official will undergo structured modular training to build operational knowledge and technical competencies. Upon successful completion, candidates will be qualified to execute safe and efficient yard and train operations in alignment with Transnet’s vision and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend and complete all theoretical training modules within the prescribed time
- Participate in practical training and apply operational techniques in a live rail yard environment
- Gain operational competence in train movement, shunting, and equipment operation
- Perform assigned tasks safely and efficiently in accordance with training objectives
- Maintain detailed records (portfolio of evidence) of training progress and acquired skills
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Computer literate
- Must pass a psychological screening battery test
- Must pass a relevant medical fitness test (including hearing and vision)
- Must be physically fit and able to work in a rail operations environment
- Must complete and pass theoretical and practical Yard Official training
Required Knowledge:
- Train service operations and shunting procedures
- Yard and siding layouts
- Section geography and vocational railway knowledge
- Act 85 and hazardous materials handling
- Radio Train Order Systems (RTOS)
- Safety protocols including high voltage and general directives
