Position Purpose
Transnet is seeking Port Workers to assist with cargo operations and ensure a safe and clean working environment. The role involves general labor tasks such as cargo handling, equipment cleaning, and compliance with operational safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
-Clean operational equipment, including ship-to-shore cranes and crane cabins.
-Inspect containers for damage and ensure proper documentation.
-Monitor reefer containers and ensure temperature control.
-Assist in the loading, unloading, and slacking of cargo.
-Secure cargo through hooking, unhooking, tarping, and untarping where applicable.
-Place and remove dunnage to ensure cargo stability.
-Maintain cleanliness in operational areas, including workshops, rail trucks, sheds, and ablution facilities.
-Complete accident reports and other required documentation.
-Identify and use appropriate cargo handling equipment.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Qualification:
- Grade 12 (NQF 4) with at least 1 year of terminal experience.
Alternative Qualification:
- Grade 10 (NQF 2) with at least 2 years of terminal experience.
Competencies Required
Knowledge:
- Terminal layout and stack positions.
- Safety protocols in cargo handling operations.
Skills:
- Attention to detail.
- High standards of cleanliness.
