Job Summary

The Lecturer 1 will report to the Head of Programme – Water & Environmental Engineering within the School of the Built Environment (SOBE). The primary responsibilities include teaching, student supervision, curriculum development, and contributing to research and community engagement initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

-Deliver lectures and conduct practical sessions for 20-24 hours weekly across programs, including the Diploma in Water and Environmental Engineering and the Bachelor of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering.

-Supervise student research and projects.

-Assist with curriculum development to ensure alignment with industry needs and academic standards.

-Moderate internal examinations and assessments.

-Monitor and provide feedback on students during industrial attachments.

-Conduct and publish research in reputable journals.

-Participate in community engagement and consultancy activities.

-Provide administrative support as delegated by the Head of Department or Programme.


Qualifications and Requirements

Academic Requirements:

-Master’s degree in Water Resources Engineering/Management, Civil Engineering (specializing in water), or a closely related field.

PhD in a relevant field is highly desirable.

Experience:

-Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in Water or Environmental Engineering.

-Teaching or research experience in Water Resources Engineering is an added advantage.

Technical Knowledge:

  • Courses and expertise in:
    • Surface and groundwater hydrology
    • Hydraulics
  • Proficiency in software tools such as:
    • HEC-RAS, EPANET, GIS (Geospatial), HEC-HMS, WMS, SWAT, and Civil3D
  • Ability to teach subjects including:
    • Groundwater Hydrology
    • Hydrology and Hydraulics
    • Irrigation Engineering
    • Reticulation Design and Water Management

Soft Skills:

-Strong communication and presentation abilities.

-Capacity to mentor and inspire students and colleagues.

-Excellent organizational and time management skills.

-Commitment to sustainability in water and environmental practices.
