Overview:
Site Worx (Pty) Ltd is seeking a qualified and experienced Health and Safety Officer to join its team at Kao Mine. The ideal candidate will be responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining a robust health and safety management system—particularly within food safety environments. This role plays a critical part in ensuring compliance with industry standards and promoting a culture of safety across the site.
Key Responsibilities:
-Develop and implement a Health and Safety Management System in line with food safety and legislative standards
-Conduct health and safety and food safety inspections; apply corrective actions where necessary
-Investigate incidents, complaints, and outbreaks to identify root causes and implement preventative measures
-Maintain a comprehensive site risk register and provide technical guidance on risk mitigation
-Monitor refrigeration, food storage, preparation, and serving procedures
-Ensure all staff are trained in food safety and health & safety protocols
-Establish and maintain fire prevention and emergency response procedures
-Ensure alignment with client requirements and best industry practices
Key Performance Areas:
-Ensure compliance with ISO 22000:2018 and ISO 45001:2018 standards across all food production and supply chain areas
-Maintain strict food hygiene and safety standards within kitchen and production zones
-Document safety practices and keep records up to date
-Support and participate in food safety audits and HACCP program implementation
-Conduct supplier audits, assess compliance, and complete relevant audit documentation
-Raise awareness of health and safety matters across departments
-Verify that safety controls are implemented in food storage and preparation areas
Qualifications and Experience:
-National Diploma in Environmental Health, Food Science, Food Quality, or Food Safety
-A related qualification will be an added advantage
-Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in the food or hospitality industry
-Experience in inspecting food premises and evaluating HACCP systems
-Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software tools
-Registration with the Ministry of Labour as a health and safety practitioner is advantageous
