Overview
The Maseru City Council (MCC), operating under the Ministry of Local Government, invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Works Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising engineering site works and ensuring the effective implementation and maintenance of road infrastructure within the Council’s jurisdiction. The Works Engineer will report directly to the City Engineer.
Responsibilities
-Supervise road construction, rehabilitation, and repairs to ensure safe and cost-effective vehicle operation.
-Ensure the economical acquisition and utilization of road construction equipment to reduce capital expenditure.
-Organize resources for road maintenance works, including the development of maintenance plans and design strategies.
-Collaborate with the design engineer to translate design specifications into on-site implementation, minimizing execution errors and costs.
-Conduct re-measurements of work carried out by contractors and confirm the quantities of completed tasks.
-Monitor ongoing projects and conduct regular site meetings with contractors to ensure smooth project progress.
-Prepare weekly project progress reports and maintain detailed work records.
-Oversee the performance of the labour-based unit, ensuring high-quality standards in all completed tasks.
-Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of Department.
Requirements and Skills
- A recognized Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
- At least four (4) years of relevant experience in road design and construction.
- Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
- Familiarity with FIDC (FIDIC) contract procedures and applications.
- Strong project supervision and resource management skills.
- Excellent communication and technical reporting abilities.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with contractors, teams, and stakeholders.
