Overview:

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Lesotho seeks to engage a qualified Consultant to support the development and operationalization of Integrated Watershed Management (IWM) Plans. The consultant will work under the general supervision of the Project Supervisor and direct guidance of the Project Manager, supported by assigned officers.

This role requires strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, capacity development, and the creation of practical tools and plans aimed at enhancing biodiversity, land stewardship, and community-based watershed conservation in the Sebapala sub-catchment.


Key Responsibilities:

Policy Review: Analyze existing domestic, regional, and international policies, regulations, and standards relevant to watershed management and assess their applicability to the project.

Guideline Development: Create an IWM operational manual/toolkit and develop user-friendly guidelines to support understanding and implementation.

Capacity Building: Train and support implementing partners in the adoption of IWM strategies and tools.

Plan Development: Facilitate the design and implementation of the Sebapala IWM master plan and community action plans.

Stakeholder Engagement: Define and reaffirm stakeholder roles and responsibilities within the watershed management framework.

Stewardship Programmes: Design programs encouraging residents, landowners, and practitioners to actively participate in maintaining watershed health.

Monitoring Program: Develop an IWM monitoring framework for the project site, including evaluation indicators.

Access Management Plan: Create a unified access plan to preserve biodiversity and protect the Sebapala sub-catchment.

Costed Implementation Plan: Produce a comprehensive and costed implementation and M&E plan to guide execution and track progress.

Best Practices: Identify and recommend Beneficial Management Practices (BMPs) to enhance biodiversity, ecosystem stability, and sustainable land-use practices.
