CHAI began operating in Lesotho in 2004, supporting the government in reducing HIV prevalence and improving healthcare access. Today, CHAI-Lesotho manages multiple impactful health programs, reaching over 350,000 individuals nationwide.
Position Overview
We are looking for a highly qualified and experienced Manager, Finance and Operations to oversee CHAI Lesotho’s financial and operational functions. This role involves strategic oversight, financial planning, budgeting, compliance, donor reporting, and leading the Finance and Operations team. The ideal candidate will provide expert-level support to ensure CHAI Lesotho’s operations are compliant, efficient, and aligned with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting & Financial Oversight
- Review monthly expenditure reports, ensuring timely and accurate submission to HQ.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and oversee month-end/year-end closing processes.
- Provide monthly financial summaries and variance analysis to program managers.
- Liaise with HQ on payroll, accounting, and audit matters.
- Lead in-country internal and donor audits.
- Monitor cash flow and ensure availability of funds for program implementation.
Financial Management
- Lead annual budgeting, reforecasting, and donor reporting processes.
- Prepare donor financial reports and ensure compliance with donor requirements.
- Track active and upcoming grants to ensure timely reporting and closure.
- Maintain Grant Tracker and support donor proposal budgeting.
- Identify financial risks and develop mitigation plans with the Country Director.
Compliance
- Ensure adherence to internal policies and external tax/legal requirements.
- Oversee procurement, operational, and financial procedures.
- Safeguard organizational assets and conduct regular inventory verification.
Operations Management
- Support country operations planning in collaboration with the Country Director.
- Oversee procurement, logistics, and administrative functions.
- Ensure legal compliance and manage staff pension submissions.
- Supervise and mentor the Finance and Administration team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related qualification (CPA or equivalent).
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in financial management and operations, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
- Prior experience with international NGOs or non-profit organizations preferred.
- Proficiency in financial systems and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks).
- Strong command of Microsoft Excel and budgeting tools.
- Proven knowledge of donor compliance, audit procedures, and financial reporting.
