Overview:

The Judiciary of Lesotho is seeking two (2) skilled and impartial professionals to serve as Mediators in civil disputes under the supervision of the Mediation Administrator. This position is central to supporting the implementation of court-annexed mediation and improving access to justice through alternative dispute resolution.


Position Purpose:

The Mediator facilitates structured discussions between disputing parties to help them reach mutually acceptable agreements without the need for formal litigation. The role requires exceptional communication, neutrality, and problem-solving abilities.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Facilitate Communication and Negotiation

-Schedule and guide mediation sessions

-Assist parties in identifying issues and understanding each other’s perspectives

-Explore areas of agreement, disagreement, and compromise

-Encourage creative solutions and facilitate consensus

-Prepare and finalize settlement agreements for court recognition

2. Report Writing and Court Mediation Reports

-Draft mediation reports where agreements fail

-Prepare weekly and monthly returns

-Track and report on case allocations, completions, and referrals to litigation


Requirements:

-Master of Laws (LLM) with 4 years of relevant work experience or

-Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with 5 years of relevant work experience

-A Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is an added advantage
