Overview

The South African Police Service (SAPS) is seeking experienced drivers to join our Visible Policing and Operations team, supporting External Deployment and Mobilisation. This role involves overseeing the management, transportation, and maintenance of our operational and armoured vehicle fleets.

Responsibilities

-Coordinate and manage armoured and operational vehicle fleets, ensuring readiness and compliance.

-Oversee national transportation of vehicles, equipment, and personnel as required.

-Load, pack, and inspect vehicles for transport, adhering to all safety and operational standards.

-Conduct regular maintenance and inspection of fleet vehicles, reporting any losses or damages promptly.

-Assist in policy formulation, ensuring adherence to National Instruction 4 of 2011 (State Vehicles) and National Instruction 2 of 2022 (Armoured Vehicles).

-Maintain registration, certification, and utilization records for Mobilisation Support’s vehicle fleet.

-Provide performance reports on fleet activities to the Section Head for inclusion in SAPS’s Annual Report.

-Ensure compliance with the Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS).

Requirements

Generic Requirements:

  • Demonstrated competency in post-specific functions.
  • Proficiency in at least two official languages, including English.
  • Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or National Certificate (Vocational) at NQF level 4.
  • South African citizenship with a valid, appropriate driver’s license.
  • No criminal convictions or cases pending.
  • No visible tattoos when wearing the SAPS uniform.
  • Ability to undergo a thorough vetting process, including security screening and fingerprint verification.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work under pressure and during extended hours.

Additional Requirements:

  • 3-4 years of driving experience.
  • Possession of code EB, C1, C, EC1, and EC driver’s licenses, as well as a Public Drivers Permit.

  • Interview: Shortlisted applicants may be required to undergo a personal interview and practical assessment.

Special Conditions

Candidates with a record in the National Register for Sex Offenders or the Child Protection Register will be disqualified. Disclosure of involvement in any protective orders under the Domestic Violence Act or Protection from Harassment Act is mandatory.
