Overview
Nkangala District Municipality is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Jetpatcher Operator/Driver. The selected candidates will be responsible for operating Jetpatcher machinery to perform road maintenance tasks, ensuring safe and effective patching of potholes, road edges, and cracks.
Responsibilities
-Operate the Jetpatcher truck at construction sites or during general road maintenance, following established procedures and specific instructions.
-Drive and maneuver the Jetpatcher truck, engaging controls to spray, fill, seal, and level road surfaces as required.
-Clean and prepare road surfaces by removing loose debris prior to maintenance work.
-Apply asphalt emulsion to affected road areas to seal potholes and prevent further damage.
-Fill road cracks, holes, or edges using a high-velocity air nozzle that delivers a mixture of bitumen emulsion and aggregate.
- Spray, seal, and dry patched road surfaces using crusher sand to protect them from traffic damage.
- Inspect the Jetpatcher truck’s safety devices, controls, and lubricant levels, and report any defects to the supervisor.
- Depressurize vessels and tanks before moving the truck to avoid accidents.
- Perform preliminary operational maintenance on the Jetpatcher to ensure its proper functioning.
- Conduct overnight kerosene soaking and cleaning of the Jetpatcher equipment.
- Ensure that all tools and materials are readily available to complete tasks efficiently and safely.
- Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety precautions, especially when handling chemical and hazardous substances.
Requirements
- Educational Qualifications:
- Grade 10 with Basic Literacy.
- Valid C1 Driver’s License.
- A Public Driver’s Permit (PDP) or certification in the transportation of dangerous goods is an added advantage.
- Experience:
- 1-3 years of relevant experience.
- Physical Requirements:
- Applicants must be physically and medically fit to operate and lift heavy machinery.
