Job Overview
O’Brien Recruitment is currently seeking a qualified and safety-conscious Dangerous Goods Truck Driver for a fixed-term, part-time role in Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting bulk fuel safely and efficiently to designated locations using specialized tanker trucks. This role requires adherence to safety regulations, accurate delivery records, and regular vehicle maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Driving and Operations:
-Safely operate tanker trucks for bulk fuel deliveries.
-Comply with all traffic laws and transportation regulations.
-Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle readiness.
-Navigate routes efficiently using GPS or mapping tools.
-Load fuel at distribution centers and unload at delivery sites, ensuring accuracy.
-Prior experience in loading at Cape Town refineries is a plus.
Safety Compliance:
- Strictly follow safety protocols to prevent accidents, spills, or hazardous situations.
- Use the correct equipment and follow guidelines for handling dangerous goods.
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate logs of deliveries, fuel usage, and mileage.
- Complete necessary paperwork and trip documentation.
Vehicle Maintenance:
- Perform routine checks and maintenance on the tanker truck.
- Report any vehicle issues and arrange for repairs as needed.
Requirements
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (DGP).
- Code 14 Driver’s License.
- Clean driving record.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience transporting bulk fuel.
- Solid understanding of safety procedures for transporting hazardous materials.
Skills
- Strong driving skills with an emphasis on safety.
- Attention to detail for accurate record-keeping.
- Ability to work independently and meet delivery deadlines.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with dispatch and clients.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to handle and move heavy hoses and equipment.
- Capability to drive for long periods and work in various weather conditions.
Working Conditions
- 12-month fixed-term contract.
- Work schedule: 1 week on, 1 week off, 6 am to 9 pm.
- Cell phone and load allowances provided.
- Exposure to outdoor conditions during fueling and delivery operations.
