OPERATOR (EXPLOSIVES TRUCK)
Overview:
The Operator (Explosives Truck) is responsible for loading holes with explosive products using a mixer-placer truck, following BME standards. Key duties include inspecting and maintaining the truck.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform pre-use inspections and complete checklists before using the truck.
  • Address any immediate issues or repairs before driving.
  • Correct or report problems within 24 hours if detected.
  • Ensure the checklist is signed off by the Foreman and mechanic.
  • Calibrate truck instrumentation monthly or after major repairs.
  • Keep the vehicle clean and presentable.
  • Complete daily truck performance administration.
  • Perform weekly greasing and truck sign-offs.
  • Calibrate the sample required scale daily.
  • Drive the truck safely in all conditions to and from the blasting site.
  • Ensure all legal paperwork is in the truck.
  • Supervise loading of the truck at silos.
  • Meet all SHERQ requirements.
  • Receive and execute charging instructions from the Blaster.
  • Inspect, measure, and record all holes to ensure correct depth.
  • Report out-of-spec holes to the Blaster.
  • Calculate the correct mass of product for each hole and report discrepancies.
  • Inspect pumps and settings before starting the pumping process.
  • Take and analyze product samples to ensure correct density.
  • Report any issues with product quality or equipment before starting the pumping.
  • Load holes according to design specs and SHERQ requirements.
  • Take and record product samples as per BME standards.
  • Complete general administrative duties, including loading sheets and pre-use checklists.
  • Supervise the Truck Assistant.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 / Matric with Mathematics.
  • EC 1 Licence.
  • Dangerous Goods and Passengers permit (DGP).
  • Code 14 Driver’s License.

Experience:

  • 3 years of truck driving experience, preferably in a mining environment.
  • 5 years of experience driving heavy-duty vehicles (EC 1).
