Overview

Robben Island Museum is seeking three qualified Bus Drivers to join our Visitor Operations Department. The primary role involves transporting visitors and residents around the island, including trips to and from the prison, the harbor, and residential areas. Successful candidates must be able to stay overnight on the island and work in shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Transport visitors on a scheduled route, ensuring timely arrivals and departures.
  • Regulate bus heating and ventilation for passenger comfort.
  • Drive the bus safely, adhering to the National Roads Traffic Act and regulations.
  • Ensure passenger safety during loading, unloading, and transport.
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections, checking water, fuel, oil, and mechanical condition.
  • Maintain operational records and compile reports.
  • Report vehicle defects or issues to the unit manager.
  • Follow maintenance schedule instructions.
  • Report any delays or accidents.
  • Sign log books daily to maintain operational records.
  • Assist passengers, including the elderly and disabled, with boarding and seating.
  • Communicate potential delays to passengers.
  • Check and use wheel ramps for disabled passengers when required.

Requirements

  • Grade 10-12 education.
  • Valid, unendorsed Driver’s License Code 14 with PrDP.
  • Completion of basic first aid and driving courses.
  • 5 years of verifiable driving experience with light and heavy vehicles.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
  • No history of drunken driving.
