Overview

The Robben Island Museum (RIM) seeks experienced bus drivers to support Visitor Infrastructure and Facilities Management by providing safe and reliable transportation for visitors and residents around the island. Responsibilities include operating scheduled routes, ensuring passenger comfort, and maintaining operational records. Drivers must be available to stay overnight on the island as required and work flexible shifts.

Key Responsibilities

-Safely transport visitors and residents according to a scheduled route.

-Maintain a comfortable environment by regulating bus temperature and ventilation.

-Drive in full compliance with the National Roads Traffic Acts and safety regulations.

-Assume responsibility for the safe loading and unloading of passengers.

-Conduct daily vehicle inspections and complete inspection forms.

-Check water, fuel, oil, and other essential mechanical conditions before each trip.

-Maintain operational records, complete simple reports, and sign the logbook regularly.

-Report any vehicle issues, delays, or accidents promptly to the supervisor or unit manager.

-Assist elderly and disabled passengers on and off the bus as needed, ensuring their safety.

-Inform passengers of any expected delays or changes to the schedule.

-Check wheel ramps regularly to accommodate passengers with disabilities.

-Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or unit manager.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Grade 10-12
  • Experience: At least 5 years of verified driving experience with both light and heavy vehicles
  • License: Valid, unendorsed EC1 or EC driver’s license with a valid Public Driver’s Permit (PDP)
  • Skills: Comprehensive understanding of safety regulations, a good driving record, and no history of driving under the influence
