Overview:

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is dedicated to providing a safe and sufficient supply of blood products across South Africa. We are currently seeking a reliable and responsible Driver to ensure the timely, efficient, and cost-effective transportation of goods and passengers. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting SANBS’s mission while maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism.


Key Responsibilities:

KPA 1: Pre-Trip Procedures

-Inspect vehicles according to the Vehicle Inspection Checklist and report any irregularities to the Dispatch Controller or relevant authority before leaving the premises.

-Receive and sign the Trip Instruction Sheets and ensure name tags are worn at all times.

-Collect and secure products for transport, ensuring proper handling of Blood Products.

-Complete the Trip Sheet, including odometer readings, and maintain an accurate logbook.

-Ensure adequate fuel levels for the trip and verify odometer readings on fuel slips.

KPA 2: Transportation of Goods

-Complete Trip Sheets and adhere to delivery timelines as instructed.

-Drive in compliance with SANBS Rules and Regulations and the National Road Traffic Act.

-Collect and deliver goods to designated destinations and ensure the recipient signs the delivery note.

-Maintain professionalism and promote the image of SANBS during all interactions.

-Complete Trip Sheets and Log Books accurately and return goods and documentation to the Dispatch Controller.

-No unauthorized goods or deviations from routes are allowed without prior consent.

KPA 3: Transportation of Passengers (Excludes Technical Drivers in Zones)

  • Confirm passenger details and collect the Transport Request Form from the Dispatch Controller.
  • Display SANBS Welcome Board during airport collections and welcome passengers professionally.
  • Transport passengers to their destinations safely and assist them upon arrival if necessary.
  • Complete the Customer Service Assessment Form and Log Book for each trip.
  • No unauthorized passengers are permitted in company vehicles.

KPA 4: Administrative and Support Duties

  • Perform ad hoc duties as required and answer transport department calls professionally.
  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of vehicles.
  • Report accidents or incidents within an hour to the Dispatch Controller and the Police, obtaining a case number.
  • (For Technical Drivers in Zones) Assist in clinic preparations and unpacking hampers from blood banks in the absence of a General Assistant.

Requirements and Skills:

Education:

  • Minimum: Grade 9
  • Ideal: Grade 12 and Advanced Driver Course

Licenses:

  • Code C1 driver’s license and Professional Driving Permit (PDP)

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Minimum 3 years of driving experience
  • Fluency in English
  • Knowledge of road safety regulations and transportation of dangerous goods
