Overview
The South African Police Service (SAPS) is looking to hire skilled and experienced Motor Vehicle Mechanics for their mechanical services department in Protea, Gauteng. The successful candidates will be responsible for performing repairs and maintenance on SAPS vehicles, ensuring operational readiness, and maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
Responsibilities
-Perform high-quality, cost-effective repairs and maintenance on SAPS vehicles.
-Diagnose and strip vehicles to identify required parts and services.
-Complete and submit parts request lists and job cards accurately.
-Ensure proper safekeeping of tools, equipment, and supplies.
-Mentor apprentices and assist with their training.
-Maintain compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 83 of 1995).
-Follow all necessary safety protocols and ensure a clean working environment.
Requirements
- Generic Requirements:
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Proficient in at least two official languages, with one being English.
- Valid light motor vehicle driver’s license.
- No previous criminal or departmental convictions, and no criminal cases pending.
- No visible tattoos when wearing the SAPS uniform.
- Will be subject to security screening, vetting, and fingerprint verification.
- Additional Requirements:
- Valid Trade Test Certificate in Automotive Motor Mechanics (as per the Skills Development Amendment Act 37/2008).
- Previous experience in automotive mechanics will be an advantage.
Application Process
- Only the official SAPS application form, available on the SAPS website or at SAPS recruitment offices, will be accepted. The Z83 form is no longer in use.
- Applications must include a comprehensive CV, uncertified copies of ID, Senior Certificate, all relevant qualifications, and a valid driver’s license.
- Submit your application by hand at any police station within the Gauteng Province.
- Shortlisted candidates will be expected to attend an interview, undergo a practical assessment, and participate in a vetting process, including fingerprint screening.
- Appointments are made in terms of the South African Police Service Act, and successful candidates will undergo a lateral entry program at an SAPS Academy.
