Overview
Oudtshoorn Municipality is recruiting 16 Temporary Firefighters to strengthen its fire and emergency services team. This role involves responding to fire incidents, performing rescue operations, participating in prevention programmes, and maintaining firefighting equipment and facilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Grade 12 (attach proof).
- 1-year operational firefighting experience.
- Firefighter 1 β NFPA 1001 Certification (attach proof).
- Hazmat Awareness β NFPA 472 Certification (attach proof).
- Valid First Aid Level 3 Certificate (attach proof).
- Code C1 driverβs licence (advantageous).
Requirements
- Physically and mentally fit (attach medical note).
- NFPA 1582 medical test (attach medical note).
- No criminal record.
- No fear of heights; not claustrophobic.
- Good communication skills.
- Proficient in at least 2 of the 3 official languages of the Western Cape.
Practical Tests
- 2.4 km run.
- Push-ups & sit-ups.
- Hose drags.
- Drum carry.
- High test.
- Claustrophobia test.
- Swimming proficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to fire, rescue, and emergency incidents.
- Assist in fire prevention inspections and community safety programmes.
- Maintain fire station premises, vehicles, and equipment daily.
- Participate in training, drills, and fitness activities.
- Complete administrative duties (vehicle logs, incident reports, occurrence books).
- Inspect all firefighting and rescue equipment.
- Render standby and overtime duty when required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the senior on duty.
