Francistown – A family outing turned tragic over the weekend when a six-year-old boy sadly lost his life in a drowning incident at Limpopo Garden & Camp, a well-known recreational facility near Shashemooke village.
According to Gerald Police Station Commander, Superintendent Kedibonye Kula, the child was found unresponsive in the adult swimming pool on the evening of Sunday, 6 April 2025. Emergency services transported him to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital, where he was unfortunately declared deceased.
Superintendent Kula confirmed that the incident was reported shortly after 19:30 and investigations are currently ongoing.
“It is still early in the investigation, and we are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident,” said Kula.
The police have urged all visitors, especially families with young children, to exercise heightened caution when near water facilities. The authorities emphasized the importance of constant supervision to prevent similar tragedies.
According to a source close to the matter, the child was part of a group attending a birthday celebration at the venue. It is believed the group had begun preparing to return to Francistown when the child’s absence was noticed. He was then discovered in the pool area.
This unfortunate incident has prompted renewed calls for safety measures at recreational spaces and increased parental awareness around water safety.
