Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and responsible Driver for Port Mobile Equipment at our Saldanha terminal. This position involves operating various machinery to load, transport, and unload cargo efficiently. The role requires strict adherence to operational procedures to ensure cargo is handled safely and without damage.

Responsibilities:

-Perform daily checks on assigned equipment before starting work to ensure operational safety.

-Complete daily task sheets, report any equipment defects, and notify the supervisor of necessary repairs.

-Replenish fuel and fluid levels to maintain equipment readiness.

-Operate equipment such as front-end loaders, forklifts, and tractor/trailer units according to standard operating procedures.

-Monitor equipment performance and report any accidents or incidents.

-Ensure the correct equipment or attachments are used for different cargo types, adjusting as necessary.

-Carry out end-of-shift tasks, including equipment checks and documentation.

Requirements:

  • Educational Qualification: Matric (NQF Level 4) or Grade 10 (NQF Level 2)
  • License: Code 14 (EC) driver’s license
  • Certification: Competence certificate for each machine to be operated
  • Experience:
    • 2 years of driving experience in port operations, maritime services, or warehouse environments for those with a matric/NQF 4 qualification.
    • 3 years of relevant driving experience for candidates with Grade 10/NQF 2.

Competencies:

  • Knowledge of port operational procedures and terminal mobile equipment.
  • Ability to operate various terminal machines safely and efficiently.
  • Understanding of safe loading practices and reporting procedures for defects and incidents.
  • Strong focus on safety, including knowledge of equipment capacities and handling diverse types of cargo.
