Overview

Unitrans Botswana is establishing a Talent Pool for highly skilled and experienced Extra-Heavy Motor Vehicle Drivers (Articulated). This is not an immediate vacancy but an opportunity for pre-qualified candidates to be considered for future openings. Shortlisted candidates will undergo a rigorous selection process, including interviews, competency assessments, and practical evaluations.

Key Responsibilities

-Prepare the vehicle for trips and operate ultra-heavy-duty trucks.

-Load, transport, and offload cargo safely and efficiently.

-Complete required trip documentation accurately.

-Follow instructions from the Supervisor and comply with operational requirements.

-Work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required.

-Maintain a safe driving record and uphold a clean criminal record.

-Ensure vehicle cleanliness, uniform compliance, and adherence to PPE standards.

-Follow SOPs and safety regulations, ensuring vehicle compliance with the Botswana Road Traffic Act.

-Oversee or operate offloading equipment for deliveries.

-Secure loads properly before departure.

-Open and close tarpaulins where applicable.

-Maintain a professional and efficient relationship with customers.

Minimum Requirements (Botswana Standards)

Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) or equivalent.

Valid Class EC Driver’s License with a valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP – Goods).

Minimum three (3) years of experience operating extra-heavy articulated vehicles.

Must be 25 years of age or older.

Must have a valid Defensive Driving Certificate (DDC) from a recognized institution.

Experience in vehicle inspections and reporting procedures for defects and emergencies.

Knowledge of the Botswana Road Traffic Act and transport regulations.

Ability to conduct vehicle pre-trip inspections and operate a fire extinguisher.

Experience in load securing, offloading procedures, and handling hazardous materials (if applicable).

Must be willing to work irregular hours, weekends, and public holidays.

Additional Selection Criteria

Candidates must successfully complete:

Medical evaluation (as per Botswana Occupational Health Standards).

USCS training modules.

Company-specific induction process.

Practical driving evaluation.

Verification of a clean criminal record (Botswana Police Clearance).
