Overview:
VKB Retail, part of the VKB Group, is seeking a skilled and dedicated Carpenter Assistant with experience in cabinetry and vanity work to join our Bethlehem team. This is a permanent position within the agricultural retail sector, focusing on carpentry tasks for cabinets and related construction projects.
Responsibilities:
-Prepare detailed drawings for cabinetry, framing, and various construction projects.
-Interpret client requests and provide mock-ups for approval before starting projects.
-Build cabinets and other carpentry projects according to client specifications.
-Frame room additions based on project requirements.
-Select and inspect materials for defects, ensuring quality standards.
-Install cabinets, counters, and molding with precision and care.
-Follow all relevant code and safety requirements.
Requirements:
-Grade 12 or NQF Level 4.
-Minimum of 3 years’ experience in finish carpentry.
-Additional 1+ years’ experience in rough carpentry is preferred.
-Extensive knowledge of power tools, including skill saw, mitre saw, and jigsaw.
-Basic hand tools and reliable transportation to job sites.
-Willingness to work overtime when needed to meet project deadlines.
-Ability to climb ladders and lift at least 36 kilograms.
-Knowledge of lumber grades and countertop materials.
-Customer-focused with a strong service orientation.
Skills:
-Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment.
-Strong analytical, numeracy, and interpersonal skills.
-Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other computer applications.
-Ability to work independently as part of a team, taking responsibility for assigned tasks.
