Overview:
The University is seeking a professional Bus Driver responsible for safely operating heavy and light passenger vehicles. The successful candidate will ensure the safety of passengers, comply with all operational and safety requirements, and adhere to the National Road Traffic Act as well as University policies. This role is critical in maintaining punctual, safe, and reliable transportation services across our campus and surrounding areas.
Responsibilities:
- Vehicle Operation:
- Safely drive buses or vehicles in accordance with the National Road Traffic Act.
- Adhere to set timetables while ensuring safety and punctuality.
- Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Inspections:
- Conduct comprehensive safety walk-round checks, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Ensure the vehicle is clean, tidy, and roadworthy prior to commencing each route.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Complete trip logs accurately, documenting open and close kilometers for each trip or route.
- Report any vehicle defects, non-roadworthy conditions, or expiring licenses and certificates promptly to Operations.
- Customer Service:
- Communicate professionally and courteously with passengers and other stakeholders.
- Provide a friendly and professional service at all times, including adherence to prescribed uniforms.
- Safety Compliance:
- Follow OHS, SHEQ, and emergency evacuation procedures as outlined by University Health & Safety Policy.
- Attend safety and compliance meetings and report any safety hazards or risks immediately.
Requirements and Skills:
- Educational Requirement: Grade 12
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years active passenger driving experience on buses
- Licenses and Permits:
- Valid Driver’s License Code EC1 (0,4) or EC
- Professional Driving Permit (PrDP)
- Technical Competencies:
- Advanced driving skills
- Basic writing and numeracy skills
- Interpersonal Skills:
- Strong customer service orientation
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships
- Regulatory Knowledge:
- Familiarity with the OHS Act, AARTO Act, and National Road Traffic Act
