Overview:

The Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) invites applications from qualified, results-oriented professionals for the position of Data Protection Officer. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with data protection legislation and advancing the Council’s data governance and legal compliance framework. This includes developing policies, monitoring data privacy practices, conducting audits, managing breaches, and leading data privacy training efforts across departments.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and promote data protection compliance throughout BEC.
  • Implement and oversee the Data Protection Strategy to ensure alignment with the Act.
  • Develop data protection policies and procedures aligned with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure data quality, accuracy, and secure management across BEC systems.
  • Conduct data privacy audits and report on privacy KPIs and risks.
  • Provide guidance and training to staff on data protection awareness and practices.
  • Manage data subject access requests and liaise with regulatory authorities.
  • Support internal audits, compliance reviews, and implement corrective measures.
  • Perform quality assurance on imported data and implement improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure the Act’s adherence across BEC’s operational systems.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Data Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Certifications in Data Protection, Privacy, or Cybersecurity will be an advantage.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of relevant experience in data protection and privacy compliance roles.
