Overview

Tshwane North TVET College is recruiting two experienced Handymen to strengthen campus operations and safety across the Pretoria and Temba campuses. The role covers routine inspections, minor repairs, key control, security coordination, and rapid response to risks and incidents to keep teaching and learning spaces safe, functional, and presentable.

Key Responsibilities

-Inspect buildings, fences, doors, windows and related structures; flag and action maintenance needs.

-Perform general maintenance and minor repairs (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, basic air-conditioning).

-Open classrooms, offices, workshops, and labs at set times; secure all areas after use (windows, doors, AC units, gas heaters, gates).

-Manage campus key safekeeping, allocation, and tracking; maintain accurate key registers.

-Execute minor fixes (broken windows/doors, leaks, ceilings, ablutions) within agreed timeframes.

-Support cleaning when required; carry out gardening, landscaping, sweeping to maintain campus appearance.

-Coordinate with on-site security; review the Security Occurrence Book daily and escalate risks immediately.

-Compile daily/weekly/monthly condition reports and provide feedback on maintenance and security matters.

-Perform additional duties as delegated; attend meetings and participate in training and development.

Requirements & Skills

-Valid driver’s licence (mandatory).

-Practical experience in general maintenance (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, basic AC).

-Proven ability to perform routine repairs independently and on time.

-Key control experience; able to secure, allocate, and track keys.

-Capacity to coordinate with security personnel; risk-aware with sound judgement.

-24/7 on-site availability and readiness to respond to incidents; willing to work extra hours, weekends, and special events.

-Familiarity with routine facility safety inspections.

-Strong verbal and written communication; professional interaction with staff and students.

-Solid troubleshooting skills; calm under pressure.

-Advantageous: gardening, landscaping, and/or cleaning experience.
