Introduction

The Polokwane Municipality is seeking 59 General Workers to join various business units across different directorates. These positions require physically fit and reliable individuals who can perform labour-intensive tasks to support municipal operations, maintenance, and service delivery.

Graduates in relevant fields will be prioritised.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 7 or ABET Level 3.
• Basic reading and writing skills.
• No experience required.
• Physically fit, healthy, and able to perform manual labour.
• Good eyesight; ability to bend, stoop, kneel, lift, push and carry heavy objects.
• Willing to work shifts, in confined spaces, and at elevated heights.
• Ability to perform outdoor and indoor labour-related tasks.
• Medical Certificate required.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

General Labour & Maintenance

-Perform general work across various municipal facilities and locations.

-Excavate trenches, perform backfilling, and assist with civil works.

-Load and off-load materials, equipment, and fittings.

-Assist plumbers with tasks such as repairing burst water pipes and unblocking sewer lines.

-Maintain cleanliness of reservoirs, pump stations, boreholes, offices, and surrounding areas.

-Remove debris and clean tools/vehicles using hoses and pressure systems.

-Stack and store tools properly and report tool/equipment defects to supervisors.

Cemetery & Parks Maintenance

• Grave digging and general cemetery upkeep.
• Grass cutting, litter picking, and maintenance of parks, open spaces, and nature reserves.

Vehicle & Facility Cleaning

• Clean municipal pool vehicles.
• Replace refuse bags and transport waste to collection points.
• Sweep, vacuum, mop floors, dust furniture, and wash dishes.
• Clean kitchens, appliances, ablution facilities, and ceramic surfaces.
• Replenish supplies such as toilet rolls and report defects.
• Perform housekeeping duties, including cleaning equipment like hoovers and scrubbing machines.

Operational Support

• Follow instructions from supervisors and Artisans.
• Assist with any other tasks aligned with the role and municipal operations.

• Successful candidates must be prepared to work in various environments, including outdoors, at heights, and inside confined spaces.
• Physical strength and endurance are essential.
• Graduates with relevant qualifications will receive preference.
