Job Overview

Harry Gwala District Municipality is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for 26 General Worker positions within the Water Services Department. The successful candidates will assist with operational, maintenance and site support functions to ensure effective service delivery within the districtโ€™s satellite offices.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 9 / Standard 7
  • 6โ€“12 monthsโ€™ experience in gardening services
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks
  • Basic understanding of safety procedures

Key Performance Areas

  • Cut and trim lawns and edges using hand-held machines (brush cutters, lawnmowers) and/or hand tools (shears).
  • Clear overgrown shrubs and vegetation.
  • Assist with preparation of work sites (road signage placement, loading/offloading equipment, tools and materials).
  • Fasten slings/ropes and guide equipment during loading/offloading.
  • Excavate and backfill trenches using hand tools (spades, picks, etc.).
  • Remove blockages, debris and alien vegetation from drainage systems (manholes, pipes, canals).
  • Prepare and mix materials such as concrete and mortar as required.
  • Clean and maintain equipment (brush cutters, lawnmowers), including checking fuel levels and replacing cutting lines.
  • Ensure good housekeeping and adherence to safety standards at all times.
