Job Overview
RCL Foods is seeking a driven, highly energized and customer-focused Code 10 Driver Salesman to join its Baking Division in Empangeni.
The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting, delivering and selling bread and confectionery products to traders and retail chain stores. The role includes calling on customers, taking orders, cash handling and new customer acquisition. The position reports to the Distribution Manager.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Grade 12
- Valid Code 10 Driverโs Licence
- Valid PDP (Professional Driving Permit)
Experience
- Minimum 2 years driving experience in FMCG
- Experience delivering and selling FMCG products for cash
- Experience servicing both existing and new customers
Skills
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English
- Good numeracy skills
General Requirements
- Maintain valid driverโs licence and PDP
- Willing to work weekends and public holidays
- Willing to work overtime when required
- Available for standby duties and to assist during driver absenteeism
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle & Safety Duties
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and hygiene standards
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections and complete checklists
- Report faults immediately and arrange replacements if required
- Comply with road safety laws and company procedures
- Handle accidents and incidents according to company policies
Stock & Loading
- Ensure loaded stock matches customer orders
- Sign loading sheets and crate control documentation
- Inspect stock quality before departure
- Ensure safe loading for road safety compliance
- Assist with loading when required
Sales & Customer Service
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships
- Increase daily sales and acquire new customers
- Report potential customer losses and market opportunities
- Implement promotions as required
- Liaise weekly with customers to maintain service levels
Deliveries
- Ensure correct quantities delivered per order
- Secure orders for the next delivery cycle
- Manage crate recovery and returns daily
- Coordinate replenishment where stock runs short
- Transport personnel, materials and products as required
Cash & Administration
- Safeguard cash and documentation at all times
- Deposit cash immediately into vehicle safe
- Complete invoices, delivery notes and related documentation accurately
- Conduct daily cash-ups with supervisor
- Ensure stock sold matches cash received
- Investigate and report shortages within required timeframes
Competitive Analysis
- Gather competitor sales and product information
- Collect competitor products where necessary
Additional Duties
- Assist in other operational areas when required
- Comply with Occupational Health and Safety standards
- Report any health issues that may affect driving ability
