Overview

Kumba Iron Ore is inviting motivated young South Africans to join its Engineering Learnership programme at Kolomela and Sishen. This structured, 3-year pathway blends classroom learning (via SIVOS) with hands-on training on mine sites, leading to an artisan trade in one of the fields below.

Electrical / Millwright / Auto-Electrics
Fitter / Diesel Mechanic
Boilermaker / Plater Welder

Minimum requirements

South African citizen with a valid SA ID
18–35 years old
Currently unemployed
Valid driver’s licence
Proof of residential address
Medically fit and able to pass Fitness Assessment & RFA
School or N2 route (one of the two):
- Grade 12 with Mathematics (±50% or higher) and Physical Science (±40% or higher); or
- N2 with relevant subjects for your trade:
  - Electrical/Millwright/Auto-Electrics: N2 Mathematics & N2 Science
  - Fitter/Diesel Mechanic: N2 Mathematics, N2 Science & N2 Engineering Drawing
  - Boilermaker/Plater Welder: N2 Mathematics, N2 Science & N2 Structural Drawing

No prior work experience is required. Shortlisted applicants will complete assessments and medicals.

Attend SIVOS theoretical training and complete on-the-job practicals on site
Follow safety standards and mine procedures at all times
Complete logbooks, assignments and trade-test preparation requirements
