Overview

The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) – Tropical & Subtropical Crops (ARC-TSC) seeks three reliable and hands-on Casual Workers to support field and farm activities at its Hluhluwe research site. Successful candidates will assist with planting, crop care, harvesting, and general farm practices that enable high-quality research trials and productive field operations.

Key Responsibilities

-Plant seeds and seedlings; harvest fruits and vegetables according to seasonal plans.

-Perform irrigation, fertilizer application, and weed, pest, and disease control.

-Sample plants for evaluation and assist with routine field data support where required.

-Protect field trials from animal interference (fencing checks, deterrents, reporting).

-Safely use, clean, and store tools and equipment; report faults promptly.

-Follow Occupational Health & Safety instructions and wear appropriate PPE.

-Carry out other farm practices as directed by the Supervisor.

Entry Requirements

-Minimum Grade 10 with an understanding of basic agricultural practices.

-Basic knowledge of manual operation of farm equipment and small machinery.

-Good communication skills (verbal and written).

-Working knowledge of health and safety procedures.

-Willingness to work outdoors and under adverse weather conditions.
