Overview

The Okavango District Council invites applications from suitably qualified internal candidates for the position of Driver II (Clinical Waste). This role is based in Shakawe and focuses on the safe collection and transport of clinical waste from health facilities to designated disposal facilities.


Minimum Requirements

  • Qualification: Botswana Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) Certificate
  • License: Valid Class B Driving License with Public Roads Permit (PRDP – Hazardous)
  • Experience:
    • Must have served for at least 2 years as an employee of the Okavango District Council
    • Must have held the valid Class B driverโ€™s license for a minimum of 2 years

Main Purpose of the Job

To safely drive designated vehicles and collect clinical or hazardous waste from health facilities and deliver it to designated waste disposal facilities, in accordance with health and safety and traffic regulations.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

-Operate clinical waste vehicles (with or without trailers) while complying with traffic and hazardous material regulations.

-Perform daily pre-trip inspections and report faults to the supervisor.

-Maintain a properly signed vehicle logbook for each trip.

-Repair tyre punctures and monitor tyre conditions for safety.

-Clean vehicles, including the refrigeration unit, with the help of clinical waste handlers.

-Report any accidents to both the police and immediate supervisor.

-Monitor vehicle mileage and notify supervisors when servicing is due.

-Ensure license and insurance documents are up to date.

-Carry out any other tasks as assigned by management.
