Overview
The Department of Defence (DoD) is recruiting 10 Food Service Aids to support unit messes and dining facilities across three bases. Successful candidates will help prepare and serve meals, keep dining and kitchen areas spotless, and maintain high hygiene and safety standards. Minimum ABET and no experience required (on-the-job guidance provided).
Key Responsibilities
–Dining Room Service: Keep dining halls clean and set tables according to menus; fold serviettes; ensure cutlery, condiments, butter and jams are replenished; keep water/juice jugs clean and filled.
–Food Preparation & Serving: Assist in preparing meals, snacks, salads, drinks; dish up meals; receive and pack rations; support food service during field exercises.
–Hygiene & Safety: Wash dishes; clean kitchen equipment and appliances; maintain high hygiene standards; remove kitchen waste; apply OHS measures at all times.
–Events Support: Prepare for unit functions, formal dinners, conferences/meetings (tea/coffee service as instructed).
–Loss Control: Report losses, damage and theft immediately.
Requirements & Skills
–Minimum: ABET/Grade 9 (Adult Basic Education & Training).
–Experience: Not required.
- Additional:
- Ability to communicate in English.
- Willingness to work shifts and after hours for functions/formal dinners (as required).
- Basic knowledge of health & safety, food preparation and use of basic food-prep/cleaning equipment (training provided).
- Good interpersonal skills, punctuality, integrity, and the ability to perform routine tasks and follow instructions.
