Overview
The SA Army Signal Formation is recruiting 4 Switchboard Operators to manage telephone exchange services, ensure professional call handling, and maintain accurate call records across key bases. Ideal candidates are service-oriented communicators with basic computer literacy and the ability to operate office equipment and switchboard systems.
Key Responsibilities
–Call Handling & Routing: Professionally manage the base telephone exchange; receive, place, and route incoming/outgoing calls to the correct divisions and extensions.
–Customer Service: Provide accurate information, take and relay messages promptly, and support internal clients with courteous service.
–Records & Billing: Maintain outgoing call logs, handle international call connections, print and issue telephone accounts, and allocate PIN codes (when authorised).
–Database & Faults: Maintain an updated telephone database and identify/report telephone faults timeously.
–Admin & Training: Support leave planning for the section and assist with on-the-job training where required.
Requirements & Skills
- Minimum Education: Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.
- Experience: Prior switchboard experience is advantageous.
- Core Skills:
- Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer literacy (operate office equipment and standard software)
- Ability to follow procedures, manage messages/records, and serve diverse stakeholders
