Overview

Plennegy Research (Starke Ayres) is Africa’s foremost specialist and global supplier of premium vegetable, flower and lawn seed varieties. We’re hiring 10 General Workers to support nursery, greenhouse and field operations across South Africa. This is a great entry-level opportunity for reliable, hands-on individuals who want to build a career in agriculture and research. No prior experience required—full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

-Count, label and package seed accurately.

-Soak, wash and dry seedling trays; prepare seedling growing media.

-Fill trays/pots, sow seeds per sowing lists and move trays between germination rooms and seedling houses.

-Arrange filled pots in greenhouses; connect and check drippers/irrigation.

-Move seedlings to greenhouses and fields; assist with transplanting and trellising setup.

-Prepare planting holes; maintain order and hygiene in work areas.

-Assist with controlled pollination activities (emasculation and pollination) per breeder crossing books.

-Perform general workshop and field support tasks as directed.

Requirements & Skills

–National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) – essential.

–No experience required (agriculture/nursery/greenhouse exposure is an advantage).

-Physically fit and able to perform manual labour in greenhouse and outdoor conditions.

-Attention to detail, reliability, willingness to learn and follow SOPs.

-Basic communication skills and ability to work in a team.
